When dry, they still rubbed or cracked off. • Most liquid gilding paint is fine for decorative pieces which have no contact with skin or food. The toxic cancer-causing warning on the label is enough for me to not use them on hands-on projects — like a book. When choosing a gold paint, read the labels and try to use a non-toxic paint. • Use opaque paints so that you only have to do one coat. Multiple coats will make the pages stick together. • Use spray paint that is good quality and ideal for crafts to prevent peeling. Krylon and Valspar are good brands.
