Infection cases are increasing in the worst outbreak in China in months. Since the first reported case on January 2 in the province, the total number of infections has exceeded 600. Three cities within the province, Shijiazhuang, Xingtai, and Langfang, are on lockdown. Residents have been ordered to stay at home. Vehicle movement is restricted as well. The three cities have an estimated population of over 21 million. Authorities are not taking any chances, with thousands of residents evacuated on Monday from Hebei villages, where most cases were found. The second round of nucleic acid tests in Hebei began on Tuesday and is expected to end in three days, while preparations are underway for mass vaccination.
