Etienne was the ACC Player of the Year as a sophomore after setting a school record with 1,658 yards and 24 touchdowns rushing on 204 carries for Clemson. Travis Etienne is an electric running back prospect. He is a big-play machine with serious speed. He is an explosive one-cut runner who is a threat to score whenever he touches the ball, as a runner or a receiver. After selecting their franchise quarterback at number 1 overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to double down on offense and select Trevor Lawrence’s college teammate at 25th, and make Lawrence and Etienne the first quarterback and running back pairing from the same college to be selected in the first round by the same team in the common era of the draft. This pick was a surprise to many people because running back was not a need for Jacksonville, which was a team that had many needs. The Jaguars already had breakout star James Robinson on the roster, as well as Carlos Hyde, another decent running back. Also, there was a very good chance that Etienne would have been available at 33. I am not a fan of this pick because I feel that there were other players, like DT Christian Barmore and S Trevon Moehrig, that could have made a greater impact and had greater value for the Jaguars at 25.
