The Joyful Noise - I Am The Resurrection (1970)

The Joyful Noise - Smile On Your Brother (1970). More of that low-fi co-ed folk ensemble sound, but with a few notable solo and small-group performances on side two. Those would include Eric Anderson’s ‘My Land Is A Good Land’, Ewan MacColl’s ‘Ballad Of The Carpenter’ (with subtle electric guitar backing), ‘Song Of Galilee’, ‘God Bless The Grass’ and the excellent original male solo track ‘Prayer For Messiah’. Also I couldn’t help but love the group’s sequence of Hair songs, especially ‘Air’ with its coughing finish. The electric guitar is plugged in for a rendition of ‘Get Together’. Elsewhere it’s covers of Ray Repp, Joe Wise, plus some lesser known titles. Tambourine, banjo and flute can be found joining the acoustic guitars in spots.
