Reflux-friendly feeding positions

Dealing with a baby who spits up a lot can be stressful and messy! A lot of times, it's just infant reflux, and a few small adjustments can make a big difference. As a nurse and maternity consultant, here are a few feeding positions that use gravity to help keep milk down. First, try an upright cradle hold for bottle or breast feeding. Instead of having your baby lie flat, keep their head and chest higher than their tummy. This helps gravity do its job and prevents milk from flowing back up. Next, consider the koala hold, which is an upright, straddling position for breastfeeding. Your baby sits facing you with their legs around your waist. This is a fantastic position for babies with reflux because they are completely vertical while feeding. Finally, and this is crucial, keep your baby upright for at least 20 minutes after every feed. Avoid laying them down immediately after eating. This gives their little digestive system time to process the milk and can significantly reduce spit-up.
