Israeli police walking at checkpoint STORYLINE: Hundreds of Palestinian workers marched from Ramallah to the West Bank barrier on Tuesday, to protest against the wall that they say prevents them from accessing work, hospitals and schools. The rally was held on International Workers Day, also known as May Day, the day set aside to mark workers' rights. Many Palestinians assert that the barrier imposes severe restrictions on those who live in the area, particularly their ability to travel freely within the West Bank and to access work in Israel, a factor which they say undermines their economy, and is tantamount to an Israeli land grab. Israeli authorities say the barrier is a necessary tool to protect Israeli civilians from what they see as Palestinian terrorism, including suicide bombing attacks. Marchers sought to get through the West Bank barrier but were pushed back by Israeli soldiers and police who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
