(Matthew 1:19-20a) God's providence can often be overwhelming: no matter how much we have our plans and decisions, God's will will always speak louder. I was sleeping, but my heart kept watch over my pain, and God came, revealing himself through his angel. It was a dream, but it was the purest reality I have ever experienced. In that dream, the angel told me: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Upon saying my name, the angel recalled the entire history of Israel; it was I who received the announcement, but the gift was for all of humanity. Then, I awoke happy, with such joy that made my soul smile. The time of God's grace had arrived. In the midst of the praises that my heart sang, I remembered Mary, who suffered because of my doubts. The day had barely dawned and there I was before her, apologizing and saying that she didn't need to explain anything more to me, for God had opened my eyes to faith. And that is how I welcomed her into my home. Hasty decisions can embitter our conscience. When in doubt, then, do not decide: pray and wait for God's signs, for He will speak to your heart.
