Russian airstrikes hit jihadist fighters in north-west Syria - Daily Mail

Video footage filmed by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front (left) shows the moment when Major Roman Filipov (inset) shouted ''This is for our guys!' before detonating a hand grenade, killing himself. The 33-year-old pilot had ejected from his Sukhoi 25SM fighter jet after being hit with a missile from a portable surface-to-air system in Idlib, Syria. He came under fire from rebel fighters from Al-Nusra Front, but landed safely and reportedly shot and killed two jihadists with his handgun before detonating the grenade. The plane went down nearby and images show the burning wreckage on the ground (right). In response to the death of Maj. Filipov, Russia launched several air raids on cities in Idlib Province, reportedly causing at least 20 civil deaths and damaging a hospital.
