National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Tuesday accepted resignations of 43 more PTI lawmakers a day after they staged protest to withdraw their resignations. Sources said the speaker has now sent the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to denotify the PTI’s members of National Assembly (MNAs). He has accepted 124 resignations of PTI legislators, who submitted them in April last following the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister through no-confidence vote. On Monday, 45 PTI MNAs tried to meet the speaker to withdraw their resignations but he was unavailable. Later, they staged protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to press their demands. Earlier this month, the NA speaker made a surprise move when he accepted resignations of 68 PTI MNAs and AML chief Sheikh Rashid in two phases as the opposition parties was mulling over bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
