The Pentagon in the United States has confirmed the completion of its military operations and evacuations at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan. It effectively ends the longest running war in American history. 5 644 new coronavirus infections have been reported in the country in the last 24-hour cycle. Another 235 people have succumbed to COVID-19 related complications. The NICD says the newly detected C.1.2 COVID-19 variant has relatively low prevalence in the country at just three percent but it has the potential to become a serious concern. The variant was detected in May in South Africa. Cross-examination of former Life Esidimeni managing director Dr Morgan Mkhatshwa continues on Tuesday in the Life Esidimeni inquest. The inquest is to establish who should be held criminally liable for the 2016 deaths of over 140 mentally-challenged patients.
