Earthquakes rattle Japan, Saint Lucia, Israel, and Indonesia. On Saturday, August 6, 5.3-magnitude temblor rumbled near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, 123 kilometers southeast of Tokyo. A magnitude-5.0 quake then struck the Saint Lucia region, 72 kilometers southeast of the capital city Castries, where panicked residents fled outdoors. On Sunday morning, a rare quake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck near Israel's central coast, 71 kilometers northwest of Tel Aviv, which was felt to the south by residents of Gaza, Palestine. In eastern Indonesia on Monday, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Maluku province, 55 kilometers northwest of Dobo. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries for any of these events.
