Bill outlawing gender-affirming healthcare for minors passes Idaho House

BOISE, Idaho. — A bill to outlaw gender-affirming healthcare for minors is one step closer to becoming law in Idaho. If the bill is approved, it would make it a felony for physicians to provide hormone blockers, hormone treatment, or gender-affirming surgeries to transgender youth. The bill passed the House on a near party line, with one Republican voting against it. Supporters of the bill acknowledge these surgeries are not being performed in the state but say that puberty blockers and hormone treatment could cause permanent harm to children. Opponents say transgender youth already harm themselves and take their own lives at high rates, and they say this bill is going to throw gasoline on the fire.
