10-2-1987 Patrick Henry vs Allendale (Part One)

In the 16th edition of Patrick Henry's homecoming, the Patriots took home a 20-12 Conference II-AA win over their biggest rival (the Allendale Academy Rebels) and Mandy Barnes took home the crown as Homecoming Queen. This would also be the final game between the Rebels and the Patriots, and Allendale Academy would soon close with many students transferring to Patrick Henry. The Patriots started the scoring in the first quarter when Billy Tant tackled the Rebel ball carrier in the end zone for a safety. A Michael Green 75-yard interception set up an 8-yard run by Bill Parker, but the PAT failed to leave the score 8-0 at halftime. Parker scored again on an 8-yard run and the PAT failed with the Pats up 14-0. In the fourth quarter, Brice Pierson picked off a Rebel pass and Parker scored his third TD on the night to make the score 20-0. Suddenly, the Rebel offense came alive. After recovering an onside kick, Mike Matthias scored on a long pass from Brett Loadholt but the PAT was stopped. Allendale recovered a PHA fumble and scored again on another long pass but failed to get the PAT, making the score 20-12. That ended up being the final as the Patriots drained the clock on their last offensive possession. On defense Scott Rhodes led the team with 9 tackles. PHA improved its record to 5-1 on the season with a 1-0 conference record. They traveled to Dorchester Academy for their second conference game. Allendale Academy, sporting a 2-4 record, returned home to play St. Angela. 1987 Roster #5 Joe Gray Peeples (12) #9 Chip Mikell (11) #10 Mikell Harper (9) #12 Michael Greene (10) #15 Bill Parker (12) #20 Greg Freeman (9) #22 Bobby Bostick (12) #28 Mark Padgett (9) #31 Brice Pierson (10) #33 Gibson Solomons (9) #44 Ed Rhodes (11) #50 Briley Brisendine (12) #51 Jacky Rushing (9) #52 Kent Padgett (11) #56 Mikell Richards (12) #58 Billy Tant (12) #60 Rudy Peeples (11) #62 Robert Mixon (9) #66 Troy Long (9) #70 Trey Harrison (10) #72 Nick Gohagan (9) #73 Byron Altman (11) #74 David Galloway (11) #75 Doug DeLoache (10) #79 Marc Priester (11) #81 Scott Rhodes (11) #82 Brian Smith (9) #84 Paul Padgett (12) #86 Scott Baldwin (9) #87 Jonathan Harvey (10) #88 Corrin Green (9) Coaches Ed Cone Bob Wiggins Mark Altman Cliff Strozier Laurie Priester
