International Walk to School Day in Fall River October 5 2016

Over 6,000 students from all eight of the City's elementary schools, all five of the middle schools, the two community schools, and the two high schools were invited to participate in the International Walk-to-School event on October 5, 2016. The event was supported by the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program which promotes healthy alternatives for children and parents in their travel to and from school and educates students, parents and community members on the value of walking and bicycling. The Doran Community School and the Letourneau Elementary School have resumed a daily Walking School Bus to encourage children to walk every day. "This is the first year that we've had a Somerset school participate," stated School Wellness Coordinator Marcia Picard who worked with Principal Dr. Joann Pereira to schedule the event.
