Short video on repairing the broken spring in my drill press. 1. Cherry area to be bent in to shape using propane torch, then bend as required. 2. Doused in chain oil and cool. 3. Once cool, lightly heat using end of flame for about 5 minutes until a nice blue colour appears. That's it. Drilled about 30 test holes, and the spring is tempered, and intact. So no need to go and buy a new spring. Trying to source one on eBay isn't easy either, but this way, you can fix it in 15 minutes and keep on working. Spring steel can always be under considerable tension. Work safely using gloves and goggles. You make any repairs at your own risk.
