December 20 - The Sunday before Christmas, of the Forefathers

Known as the Sunday of the Forefathers, the gospel today tells of Christ's genealogy, from Abraham (the father of faith), to Christ Himself through 41 generations. While we may not know many of them, the Jews to whom St. Matthew was writing not only knew them but knew that the Christ would have been in their family. So, the gospel points to prophecy and shows how only one person could have ever fulfilled all that He did: Jesus Christ the Lord!
