Wide of demonstration STORYLINE: Thousands of Palestinians protested throughout the West Bank and Gaza on Friday to show solidarity with Palestinian prisoners who have been on a hunger strike since Sunday. About 2,000 Palestinian prisoners are taking striking to press for greater access to telephones, more family visits, an end to strip searches and better sanitary conditions. The prisoners launched the hunger strike on Sunday, the largest such protest since the current conflict between Israel and the Palestinians erupted nearly four years ago. Israeli Public Security Minister Tzachi Hanegbi has said the prisoners could starve to death before he'd give in to their demands. Israeli police were on high alert in Jerusalem on Friday, banning Palestinians under the age of 45 from attending prayers at al-Aqsa mosque, the city's holiest Muslim shrine.
