God of War – Episode 157 – Unlocking the mask

Back at Sindri’s House, Atreus finds Freyr recovering from his injuries with Freya’s help. After a short conversation, Kratos calls everyone to the table and dramatically places Gjallarhorn down as proof that Heimdall has been defeated. The group reacts with a mix of shock, sarcasm (from Brok), and dread (Týr fears Odin’s retaliation). Freya suggests a direct assault on Odin, but Kratos disagrees. Atreus proposes a risky alternative: returning to Asgard to finish reconstructing the Mask, hoping it could be used to prevent Ragnarök and restore the Jötnar. Kratos hesitates, not wanting to risk his son, but after discussing it with Mimir, the group agrees it's their best strategic move. Sindri adds an emergency escape enchantment to Atreus’s Yggdrasil key, and Kratos gives his blessing. Before leaving, Atreus visits his home in Midgard, where he reunites with Fenrir, whose soul now inhabits a new body after the earlier Garm incident. Angrboda arrives and encourages Atreus, though she warns him to be cautious of Odin's manipulation. Upon arriving in Asgard, Atreus finds the Aesir speculating about Heimdall’s death. He lies to Odin, who pretends to believe him and reveals that the last piece of the Mask is in Niflheim. Odin tasks Atreus, along with Ingrid, Huginn, and Thor, to retrieve it. However, Thor is missing. Atreus and Thrúd find him drunk at the Black Thunder Mead Hall, despite his promise to stay sober. After failed attempts to reason with him, a bar fight erupts. Atreus and Thrúd recover their weapons and barely survive the brawl. Just before Atreus is killed by an Einherjar captain, Thor intervenes with Mjölnir, killing the attacker. Sobered up, Thor agrees to go to Niflheim. There, he and Atreus battle through enemies until they reach the final mask piece in the Mist Fields. Atreus nearly falls off a cliff while retrieving it, but Thor saves him. The mask is finally completed. Odin arrives moments later, thrilled with the result and congratulating Atreus while ignoring Thor. Soon, Sif arrives with Valkyries Hrist and Mist, intending to arrest Atreus for Heimdall’s murder, blaming Kratos. Odin dismisses her concerns harshly. Sif tries to sway Thor, who hesitates but ultimately turns against Atreus. Just as Thor is about to strike, Ingrid blocks the attack, giving Atreus the moment he needs to activate Sindri’s escape spell. He falls into the World Tree, where Kratos and Mimir rescue him. Now back at Sindri’s House, Atreus returns with the completed Mask, ready to face what comes next.
