Vocab Wednesday: Homophones
In this GRE Vocab Wednesday video, Chris Lele from Magoosh goes over GRE vocabulary words that sound like other words. These words are called homophones! The first homophone is the word "grisly," which sounds just like "grizzly." "Grizzly" is a kind of bear, and "grisly" describes something that evokes disgust because it's gory and gruesome. Next up we have "gaudy," which has nothing to do with religion! It means flashy, extravagantly bright and showy. Next, the word "cozen" sounds just like "cousin," but its meaning is very different! "Cozen" means to deceive or trick someone. Chris finishes things off with "unwonted," which does not mean the same as "unwanted!" "Unwonted" means something that's unusual or not typical.
