The NTSB on Saturday outlined the series of events leading up to the crash of American Airlines Flight 5432 and an Army Black Hawk helicopter on Wednesday. Data from the jet’s flight recorder showed its altitude as 325 feet, plus or minus 25 feet, when the crash happened, National Transportation Safety Board officials told reporters at a briefing Saturday. Data in the control tower, though, showed the Black Hawk helicopter at 200 feet at the time. Reporters repeatedly asked about the 100-foot discrepancy, frustrating officials. The discrepancy has not yet been accounted for. However, investigators hope to reconcile the altitude differences with data from the helicopter's black box, which is taking more time to retrieve because it was waterlogged.
