We released wild beavers in England - with "River Monsters" presenter Jeremy Wade
Watch as wildlife presenter and extreme angler Jeremy Wade releases rare animals back into the wild in England. @rivermonsters_official Beavers died out in the UK 500 years ago due to hunting. Recently, they've been making a comeback thanks to nature charities creating beaver enclosures - and a few unauthorised people carrying out illegal wild releases. Now the National Trust is leading the way with authorised, legal releases into the wild in some of it's wet woodlands. For this release of four beavers, on the Holnicote Estate at Exmoor in Somerset, we had help from the presenter of the popular TV series "River Monsters". See what happens when the beavers finally have their freedom, and find out what Jeremy thinks of the result. The team at Holnicote are closely monitoring how the beavers change the environment around them by creating dams and deep pools of water. This mosaic habitat has created homes for lots of other wildlife, including amphibians, bats, otters and birds, and it also benefits people. Beavers are helping to improve flood management by slowing the flow of water, which improves the health of streams and rivers, and balances the effects of climate change.
