“Sunset” is the song I wrote for my special-special close friend two years ago on her birthday. She loves Sunset; therefore when I wrote this song, I thought about Sunset and tried to make the melody have the atmosphere of glorious Sunset on Sea. I hope that you can feel Sun slowly sinking into Sea, making Sky glitter for the last time in the varied shades of orange. I really really love this piece, love that I can make it for many reasons: the first time I used mM7 chord, the part when EbM7 transits to G (I still don’t know the rule here, just made it by chance, why EbM7 moves to G sounding fairly good like that? If you know the reason, please let me know)… But the thing I love most about this piece is that it ends in Gadd9 – the V of C scale. It ends in dominant, not in tonic. Therefore, maybe you feel it somehow ends abruptly, somehow still unfinished, not very satisfying. But it’s my decision to end it like that. Because I think that if I end it in C, it will really end. But you know, Sunset will never have a real ending, it’s always continued, it always comes again tomorrow. Therefore, my Sunset also ends like that – it ends but not really end, you can easily imagine the next notes after that. It will never end, so does your spirit and your inner peace.
