Scoring BJJ takedowns from standing back control requires you to bring your opponent down to the mat in JiuJitsu. There are several methods to do so in BJJ, yet the most effective is lift and Mat Return. Yes the suplex looks cool, but zaps a good portion of your energy. In this video I cover how to secure your opponent so they can't turn in your arms, properly lift them, and bring them down safely to the mat. Safe to assume that your opponent will turn and tripod to avoid the takedowns, or immediately work to get to a standing position to avoid the takedowns being scored. Mat Returns are also great when attempting a sweep yet your opponent goes to turtle to avoid it being scored. Your can follow all the same step to bring them back down if they stand.
