Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Thursday his government would invest $37 million into skills training for 15,000 workers across the province, as it works to “build modern infrastructure.” The money will be used to provide hands-on training for young people and veteran workers, Ford said, adding that in “most cases” it would be free-of-charge. Government officials also spoke about the need to create more opportunities for women in the skilled trades, saying that $450,000 would be targeted towards “bringing more women into the trades.” Ford also said Thursday he would be “willing” to help the cash-strapped Canadian National Exhibition in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic, and called on the city and federal governments to do the same.
