#WhatsInMyTray - STEM Project - How to make a water wheel

Looking for a STEM project that's educational, but also gives you the perfect opportunity to get outside with your class? This #WhatsInMyTray activity allows you to use recycled materials to make a water wheel and then explore the way in which it works and how they are used on a much bigger scale. What you need... 1 Gratnells F25 tray 2 plastic/paper plates 1 wooden stick - long enough to reach from one side of the tray to the other 7 plastic pots (yoghurt pots, plastic cups, film canisters, etc.) Strong sticky tape Watering can Water What to do... Take your two plates and make a hole in the centre of each, big enough for your wooden stick to fit comfortable through Slide the wooden stick through both holes leaving enough space between the plates for your plastic pots Tape the plastic pots between the two plates. Ensure that all of the cups are a fair distance apart and are all facing the in one direction Rest the wooden stick on either side of the tray and fix in place with some tape Fill a watering can and slowly pour the water into one of the cups. As this cup fills it will cause the wheel to spin, allowing the next cup to fill and accelerate the spinning. The faster you pour, the faster the wheel will spin.
