Kay Adams Reacts to Steelers Outlasting Ravens 18-16 as Tomlin's Defense Stifles Lamar Jackson Again
And now let’s head to Pittsburgh, where the Steelers beat the Ravens for the 8th time in their last 9 meetings to take control of 1st place in the AFC North. They’re now favored to win the North for the first time all year at -160…while the Ravens odds have dropped to +130 there. And while Russell Wilson moved to 4-0 as the starter…this win yesterday was really about the dominant defensive performance we saw from the Steelers. They held Lamar under 50% completions, Derrick Henry to just 65 yards…the 3 takeaways led to HALF of their points on the day…And Patrick Queen came up with his best game as a Steeler. Queen led Pittsburgh with 10 tackles against his former squad…and this strip and recovery off of Isaiah Likely right before half completely changed the momentum in this game. The Ravens had just scored to take the lead…they had a shot to get more points before halftime…and instead, Pittsburgh went into the locker room up by 2 because of this play. This was the ONLY PLAY the Ravens ran in the game with a lead. Pittsburgh has the 2nd best defense in the NFL this year…allowing their fewest points per game since 2011. The way they’re playing combined with the stability Russ has brought to this offense has made them a legit Super Bowl contender. The Steelers will get the Browns this Thursday night with a chance to further solidify their place at the top of the division. The Ravens have a huge game against the Chargers next Monday Night in a Harbaugh brother rematch. And they have some things to figure out. Another 12 penalties yesterday – they lead the league in that category. 2 big missed kicks from Justin Tucker in a 2 point loss…he hasn’t looked like himself this year. The defense did play a lot better…but they failed to get a couple of big stops too. The talent is there, I’m not overly concerned yet…but Lamar said after the game they need to “stop beating themselves”...and it’s hard to disagree after what we saw yesterday.
