Becoming FutureReady: Youth Redefining Work in East Africa #FutureReadyEA

Is Africa Ready for the Future of Work? Across East Africa, a quiet revolution is taking place. Young professionals, creators, and entrepreneurs are rewriting what work looks like - not through theory, but through lived experience, resilience, and bold innovation. "Becoming FutureReady: Youth Redefining Work in East Africa” is a cross-border documentary film produced by the Global Shapers Community (Kampala, Kigali, Iringa & Dar-es-Salaam Hubs) under the ‪@wef‬'s thematic area Reskilling for the Future. The film follows a powerful question: How can emerging youth shape the future of work in a region where skilling systems are fragmented, job markets are shifting, and entrepreneurship is becoming a survival tool? Through intimate stories, on-ground voices, and insights from 43 learners, 14 ecosystem ambassadors, and 10 focal persons across the region, the film explores: 1. The rising demand for soft skills as the new career currency 2. How youth are building entrepreneurial pathways where jobs don’t exist 3. The gaps in the region’s workforce development systems 4. The FutureReady pilot - an ambitious 5-year journey to equip 1 million youth with practical work-readiness skills by 2030 5. What truly needs to change for Africa’s youth to thrive in the evolving global labor market This documentary is not just a film. It is a blueprint. A mirror. A call-to-action for governments, development partners, and private sector players to co-create scalable, youth-led solutions. If you care about Africa’s future — this is a story you cannot miss. If you fund innovation, youth development, employability, or future of work initiatives - this is where the next chapter begins.
