Can I Sign Away My Rights to Not Pay Child Support? The answer is maybe. The reality of it is, is that that’s a serious decision that you really need to consider. But at the same time, it is a possibility. If there was an adoptive parent, the court will make you pay child support even if you don’t have rights to that child, until there is an adoptive parent who takes on that responsibility. A guardianship will not viscerate your requirement to pay child support. Only an adoption will, which terminates your rights and provides that somebody else is going to do it.
