COAL IMPORTER COMPANIES QUESTION MAINTAINABILITY OF PIL PLEADING TO BAN COAL HANDLING AT MPT_Prudent

Respondent coal importer companies Vedanta, South West Port Limited and Adani have raised question of maintainability of a Public Interest Litigation filed by NGO Goa Foundation and some Vasco residents pleading for total and permanent closure of coal import and coal handling at MPT. Respondent companies contended that Appellate Administrative Tribunal or National Green Tribunal is the right authority, where this petition should have been filed. But, granting liberty to the petitioners to amend the petition, the High court has observed that this is public interest litigation with larger aspects and the court is not bound to deal with the payers only.
