The first part of a film made by Leith Valley historian and amateur Dunedin film maker William Hood Davidson (1894-1979). Recorded without sound. Davidson wrote 'Owheo: The Story of Leith Valley during the Pioneering Days 1848-1948'. Only a small number of typed copies of this history (some with photographs) were produced. The film begins with scenic views of the Water of Leith. From 1:47 it shows a sequence titled 'From City Street to County Road'. This is footage of a car journey from Duke Street, Dunedin, through Woodhaugh, and along the length of Leith Valley. The film was shot between 1944 and 1945. Ref: Hocken Archives MS-1183/010.
