Also known as the Mission Beach Roller Coaster, this iconic woodie opened in 1925 and was designed by Fred Church and Frank Prior. It had two name changes (Roller Coaster & Earthquake) before falling into disrepair in the 1970s. It closed in 1976 and was scheduled for demolition before a group of citizens intervened and had it designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987. After a $2 million restoration it reopened in 1990 and remains as popular as it was in its first 30 years of operation. Belmont Park is located in San Diego, California.
