Speaker(s): Philip Rizcallah The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) will begin work this year to integrate climate resilience into building design guides and potentially, building codes. The result is anticipated to be revisions to Canada’s National Building Codes by 2020 for residential, institutional, commercial and industrial facilities. Guides integrating climate resiliency into the design and rehabilitation of public infrastructure are also expected to be ready for consideration for adoption by 2020. In this first of two sessions on the subject, NRC will discuss how the Codes process works in Canada, with a focus on the expected upcoming work that NRC will be doing related to resilience to climate change of buildings, and to a lesser extent, other infrastructure. This first session will expand on some of the areas in the National Building Code (ex. wild fires, snow load, floods) that are anticipated to be considered under climate change resilience.
