Sometimes knowing what food to eat can be a challenge. I recently appeared on San Antonio’s SA Live to debunk common food myths and set the record straight on healthy fats. I explained that tropical oils, such as Malaysian sustainable palm oil, are great fats. This versatile and nutritious oil has qualities that can help your heart, as well as your skin and hair. Recent studies have shown that we no longer need to shy away from saturated fats. We don’t want to be fat. We want to eat fat. We want to eat good-for-you fat. We know that olive oil is good and nuts are good. And fish are good for us and avocados are great for us, too. Tropical oils such as Malaysian sustainable palm oil are also healthy. This good-for-you oil is found in a lot of products, for example, the Smart Balance blends. It really is a great fat. During the segment, I demonstrated that tropical oils, like butter, have a higher melting point than other edible oils. This quality, and the fact that it is cholesterol neutral, makes Malaysian sustainable palm oil an ideal replacement for trans-fats in many grocery store products. I explained that tropical oils have other benefits, as well. Not only is it good for you to eat, Malaysian sustainable palm oil is a great moisturizer for skin and deep conditioner for hair. The responsibly produced Malaysian palm oil is also rich in nutrients such as vitamin E tocotrienols. That’s really beneficial for heart health. Malaysian sustainable palm oil has more antioxidant vitamin E than any other vegetable cooking oil. It is also a rich source of other fat-soluble nutrients including pro-vitamin A carotenoids, vitamin D and vitamin K. These nutrients need fat for your body to absorb them.
