NJ Spotlight News: November 2, 2020

Months, even years, of campaigning are being capped by a COVID-19-induced, largely vote-by-mail election that could take weeks to decide. Many are hoping the last 24 hours are no indication of the next. The 2020 election is playing out with a COVID-19 pandemic backdrop. Gov. Phil Murphy says he’s leaving all options on the table, including a statewide curfew and another round of statewide stay-at-home orders. Monday, state officials reported another 1,379 new positive coronavirus cases. For the past two weeks there have been more than a thousand new COVID-19 cases a day. The state's total case count is now 240,997 with three additional deaths reported Monday for a cumulative total of 16,357 fatalities. That’s the fifth highest death toll in the nation.
