Morning Coffee Sessions #83: Si Tu Vois Ma Mére - Sidney Bechet 1952. For James Baldwin. I watched the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro last night and it moved me greatly. I encourage you to watch it if you haven't already. Baldwin, like Bechet, moved to Paris to seek safety and existential peace. His quote from the Dick Cavett show below stuck with me. This has been a pattern for some of the greatest black Americans, such as Josephine Baker and more recently Ta-nehisi Coates. We still have such a long way to go. Black Lives Matter.
