Just another day cutting fish for winter at our Rampart Rapids fish camp. This will go on and off all summer as the different runs of salmon travel past. This run now of King salmon is the most coveted as the King are the richest of all and the time of year the best for drying. Heads and guts go to the dogs whose fur just shines by summer end. Most King are made into strips as the most flesh gets used that way. From left, Sister in law Faith, Daughter Ariella, Wife Kathleen, Son Joe and Joe's girlfriend Samantha. This is what everyone here has done almost or every summer for all their lives. Fish is needed every year so this is one way it is put up. Other ways are canning and freezing some fish whole in our village home freezer. Smoke from two fires about 8 miles away is filling up the valley. It happens so often nobody is worried but some times they can blow up big and get threatening.
