a brief description of AQAP. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is a militant Islamist group based in Yemen. It is considered one of the most dangerous branches of al-Qaeda and has been responsible for several high-profile attacks, including the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in the port of Aden, and the attempted bombing of a US-bound airliner on Christmas Day in 2009. AQAP has also been involved in a long-running conflict with the Yemeni government, as well as carrying out attacks on Western and regional targets. Despite efforts by the Yemeni government and the US to counter the group, AQAP remains a significant threat in the region and continues to conduct terrorist attacks.
