Nigel's (Unome Racing's) WRX Race Car - The newest Flatirons Project Car

Nigel from Unome Racing has started working at Flatirons Tuning, and over the last few months, he has started making a number of updates to his WRX race car. Now that it is getting close to going back on track, we thought it was time to bring the car in and take a look at the work he has been doing. Nigel originally built this car just to run at track days, but shortly thereafter decided to run the car in Gridlife's Track Battle in 2019. Through that, he learned a lot about the car, and started shoring up some of the cars weaknesses. But now that he is looking to start competing with the car again, he knew that there were some more things that needed to be addressed. And this is the start of that work. What started this project off was the need for a turbo that had a better power band with more useable power and ideally a bit more power. The Turbo Nigel picked was the RCM400 from Roger Clark Motorsports. This then lead to some consideration of his drivetrain since we had some experience with the power that this turbo was capable of producing. That then lead to a full STI 6-speed swap at the same time. Nigel then added in some preventative fueling changes with rails, lines, and injectors to make sure that the car would be able to fully utilize the new turbo. The project sort of took on a life of its own, but the end result should be worth it. Stay Tuned to see how the car does on the dyno with the next episode!
