Trent Austin Mini Lesson #32: Overbreathing/Underbreathing on the Trumpet

Here are a few of my thoughts about how I approach my own breath control while playing. 0:30 Don't over breathe. Merri Franquin said you can play trumpet with the air that's already inside your lungs. Taking too deep of a breath and getting your whole body out of alignment won't help. 1:10 Look through your mouthpiece (I'm using our ACB MV 3CS https://www.austincustombrass.biz/aus.... The hole is quite small! Trumpet is a low airflow instrument. 2:00 Even after exhaling all my air, I can still play. 3:16 Listen to your sound. If you're over breathing your sound will get tense and piercing. If you're under breathing, it will be hard to support. 3:56 You can check with a piece of paper to see how little air is actually needed. 4:35 Try to play in a relaxed state at all times and you'll get the best results.
