Tulsa city councilor pleads for action after Uvalde, Saint Francis mass shootings

A Tulsa city councilor is advocating for tougher gun laws. Kara Joy McKee, who represents District 4, said she and some of her fellow councilors are frustrated. Four innocent lives were ended by a gunman on Wednesday. Police said the gunman had a note that said he was targeting Dr. Preston Philips, whom he blamed for his back pain. "I'm still reeling from it because I'm a mother," said McKee. "And for so many Tulsa families, we were already horrified and Uvalde was so fresh." Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said the gunman was able to buy an AR-15 style rifle just hours before the shooting, which McKee said should have never been allowed. "Now is the time to start questioning the unmonitored access to weapons that can kill a lot of people quickly," she said. "Even a day could have saved Dr. Phillips. I'm sorry, it makes me so angry." McKee joined a local chapter of Moms Demand Action right after the school shooting in Uvalde. "Before I could go to the first Moms Demand Action event, there was another shooting in Tulsa," she shared.
