What is Factor in biochemistry analyser

What is Factor in a biochemistry analyzer? Hi, I'm Prem Bhatia, and you're watching Prem Bhatia's Laboratory Practice. Welcome to our YouTube channel. After watching this video, you'll learn to be able to Excellent question! In a semi-auto biochemistry analyzer, a "factor" is a multiplication value used to convert the absorbance (optical reading) of a test to its final concentration (e.g., mg/dL). --- ✅ What is a Factor? Factor = a constant value It tells the machine what number to multiply the absorbance by to get the correct result. Each test (e.g., Glucose, Urea, Creatinine, etc.) has its own factor. --- 🔬 How to Set/Calculate a Factor? Method 1: From Kit Insert (Easiest and Most Reliable Method) 1. Every biochemistry kit comes with an *insert/manual*. 2. It provides a recommended Factor for each test (e.g., Glucose – 100, Urea – 45.5, etc.) 3. You can set this manually in the test setup menu on the machine. --- Method 2: Manual Factor Calculation (if the kit doesn't provide a factor) Factor = Standard Concentration ÷ Standard Absorbance Example: Standard Glucose = 100 mg/dL Its Absorbance = 0.250 So Factor = 100 ÷ 0.250 = 400 Now the absorbance of the unknown sample × 400 = Final result (mg/dL) --- ⚙️ How to set the Factor in the machine? (Basic Steps) 1. Go to the menu and select “Test” or “Parameters” 2. Select the test name (e.g., Glucose) 3. There, you will find the “Factor” option. 4. Enter the correct factor according to the kit. 5. Save. --- 📌 Tips for Reliable Results: Always use the kit factor. Verify the factor with each new kit lot. If the blank (reagent) absorbance is high, check the reagent. Daily QC (Quality Control) is essential. Thanks
