Episode Forty-Eight: Footwork Activation Warming up for a game at the right intensity is vital for every goalkeeper. Footwork drills that include the ball should not only be used to build the goalkeepers confidence but also be made challenging. It's common for junior goalkeepers to be warmed up by the subs or Dads watching, so its highly important that scenes of balls being blazed over the bar and picking the ball out of the net every second shot does not occur. The warm up is vital for the goalkeepers preparation and this drill sees the use of getting into the set position quickly and being able to plant your feet should you need to dive left or right. I start with throws to the body to increase confidence and allow the goalkeeper to read the flight of the ball while trying to set quickly. Progress the drill by adding volleys and then end with striking off the floor with the goal to score.
