A dancer made a December 29 performance at the Lindy Focus in Asheville, North Carolina, all the more memorable by proposing to his longtime dance partner during their routine. Anthony Chen and his now-fiancee Irina Amzashvili first met at a dance competition in 2013 that randomly pairs dancers together. “We’ve been dance partners since 2015, and started dating in 2017,” Chen recalled. “We actually chose this song together and choreographed the routine together in 2020. Not until we were slated to perform the routine at Lindy Focus in December 2021 in front of a live audience did I start planning on switching up the ending to propose to Irina.” While Amzashvili was surprised in the moment, the couple had discussed marriage in the past. “She knew that I was planning on proposing to her some day, but did not know when or how it was going to happen. I’m fairly certain I wouldn’t have done a public proposal had I not been 99% certain she would say yes. At the end of the routine we’re supposed to turn towards each other and reconnect into an ending pose – which is why it’s so surprising to her that I’m not there, but on my knee!” Chen said. And luckily for Chen, she said yes!
