Membranes 1: Lipid Biochemistry and Bilayers

Membranes are such an important part of all cells, from building the cell membrane to the majority of cellular organelles. This is the first A level video that properly introduces you to biochemistry and the molecular structure of biochemicals. It's really not as intimidating or difficult as it sounds, and you really don't need a strong background in chemistry to understand it. Just concentrate and watch the simple step by step details of how the molecule builds. This lesson covers the initial component parts of membranes (glycerol and fatty acids), then how they form triglycerides and phospholipids, and finally how those in turn can form bilayers: the basis of all membranes.
