The Labour Party in the U.K. (the party of Tony Blair in previous decades) made a surprising left turn in the fall of 2015 with the election to its leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. Corbyn has consistently opposed all the wars, British government attacks on unions and the public sector, and consistently opposed Zionist policies on Palestine. Here are rare scenes of Jeremy Corbyn in the U.S., speaking and being interviewed in 1996 in Cleveland and 2007 in Chicago, when then he was a Member of Parliament from Islington North. Though some surface comparisons may be made between Bernie Sanders in the U.S. and Corbyn in the U.K., there are important differences in their voting records. Likewise, the Labour Party in the U.K., unlike the Democratic Party in the U.S., is historically based within the trade union movement and has formally advocated socialist policies. Through the Blair years the Labour Party had adopted class-collaboration as its guideline, but that is now being challenged as shown by Corbyn's election to party leadership.
