Join Hall Council STORY BEHIND THE VIDEO The idea: About a month ago on a Sunday morning, we were hanging around, brainstorming an idea for a music video that we wanted to record and film. While we were on the topic of being RAs again, we thought about all the videos that the university produced to the incoming freshmen. There would be an informational video on Welcome Week, Move-in Day, Freshmen Year, but nothing concrete on how to fully take advantage of living in a First Year Residence Hall. We thought, what if there was a quick 10-pointer video that was informative and humorous at the same time? The music video idea was scrapped, but another idea was born! The video: We thought up numerous initial video concepts, but understood that the incoming class would appreciate a video that was attention-grabbing, funny, and concise. Our approach to this video was thus to create something that was both educational and humorous but didn't feel drawn out. The decision was made to make the video, "10 Things You Should Know About NYU ResLife," with each portion of the video seamlessly intertwined. However, we couldn't just start the video with #1 and end with #10. That's where the book came into play. We would have a confused freshman read the book with the 10 pointers and learn everything about living at NYU and ultimately applying what he learned in his own life. The location: Where to film? We wanted to be able to show off as many NYU Residence Halls as possible, but also recognized that for ease of filming, choosing a select number of locations would be the most efficient. Ultimately, we chose to shoot in Third Avenue North and Founders Hall. Both buildings house a large amount of freshmen and offer great places to film. Many thanks to the awesome staff at the NYU ORLHS office. They were so great to work with and helped us immensely in this endeavor, including funding our filming equipment and approving our shooting at the above mentioned locations. Special thanks to Chris Stipeck, our point person at the ORLHS office and the one who gave us the green light to start this whole project.
