The SCG helps improve throughput, network coverage, and reliability, especially in high-speed mobility scenarios. It operates alongside the MCG (Master Cell Group), where the Primary Cell (PCell) resides, ensuring seamless data transmission and better performance. Beam failure occurs when a UE loses connection with the serving beam due to obstacles, mobility, or weak signal strength. To recover, Beam Failure Detection (BFD) and Beam Failure Recovery (BFR) mechanisms are used. The UE continuously monitors signal quality and, if a failure is detected, it quickly switches to an alternate beam or triggers a reconfiguration request to maintain connectivity. This process is crucial in mmWave (Millimeter Wave) frequencies, where beam stability is more challenging. SCG and beam failure handling in 5G NR ensure seamless connectivity, better user experience, and improved network efficiency. Understanding these concepts is essential for telecom professionals, engineers, and 5G enthusiasts looking to optimize network performance and reliability in modern wireless communication systems.
