September 22, 2014 19:32 Turkish forces fire tear gas, water cannons at Kurds near Syrian border Turkish security forces used water cannons and tear gas to push back people who were apparently trying to approach the Turkish/Syrian border on Monday. Several arrests were made. Around 130,000 Kurdish refugees have crossed into Turkey over the past four days, fleeing the advance of Islamic State militants. On Sunday, Turkey closed the border crossing at Kucuk Kendirciler to prevent Kurds from joining the fight in Syria.
