South Korea has strongly denounced the terrorist attack on its embassy in the Libyan capital of Tripoli. On Monday, Seoul's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that any act of aggression on a diplomatic mission can never be justified and offered condolences for the victims of the armed assault and their families. Two security guards were killed and one is in critical condition after gunmen shot rounds at the embassy's guard post from a passing car on Sunday. There were no South Korean casualties. Seoul is looking into claims by militants supposedly linked to the Islamic State that they were behind the shootings. In addition, the government has decided to dispatch officials to countries in the Middle East such as Turkey, Lebanon, Israel and Syria to develop a plan to protect South Koreans residing there. As the gunmens' motives are still unknown, it cannot be ruled out that they were targeting South Koreans. Seoul is strongly urging its citizens in the region to evacuate.
