Joel is critically injured and fighting for his life, leaving Ellie to survive on her own. While hunting a deer in the snowy woods to trade for food, Ellie encounters two strangers, David and James. After striking a deal to trade the deer for antibiotics, Ellie and David are forced to team up to survive a massive wave of Infected at a coal mine. However, the alliance turns dark when David reveals the truth about his group. The episode ends with a desperate chase on horseback, leading to Ellie getting captured and thrown into a cell by the cannibals.
